Arsenal are currently flying high at the top of the Premier League table, although manager Mikel Arteta does not appear set to rest on his laurels, with new additions having been mooted this month.

One area that the Gunners do appear keen to bolster is on the flanks, having notably come close to signing Ukrainian sensation Mykhaylo Mudryk before the 22-year-old was poached by free-spending rivals, Chelsea, last week.

Another name that has emerged as a possible alternative to the former Shakhtar Donetsk speedster is Brighton and Hove Albion man, Leandro Trossard, with the Evening Standard claiming that the north Londoners have been presented with the opportunity to sign the 28-year-old before the end of the window.

The Belgian international - who could cost in the region of £25m - is currently facing an uncertain future at the Amex following a public falling out with manager Roberto De Zerbi, having already appeared set for an exit with just 18 months remaining on his current deal.

With a departure from the south coast side now appearing something of an inevitability for the former Genk star, journalist Fabrizio Romano - speaking to GIVEMESPORT - has suggested that Arteta and co could have been given a chance to strike a deal in the coming weeks.

The transfer insider revealed: “From what I’m told, he’s been offered to Arsenal in the last few days after the situation with Roberto De Zerbi at Brighton.

“Of course, his agents are speaking to many clubs and so this is why there are some opportunities.”

While Trossard has slipped down the pecking order of late with the Seagulls - having not featured in the last two Premier League games - the £40k-per-week man had enjoyed a fine start to the campaign prior to that, with seven goals and two assists in the league alone.

That "unreal" form - as lauded by pundit Rio Ferdinand - has ensured that Trossard is even matching Gabriel Martinelli at present, with the Brazilian speedster having also chipped in with seven goals and two assists for the league leaders this term.

That should well ensure that the Brighton man can offer genuine competition down the left flank were he to make the move to the capital, with it set to be a real benefit to have a player who has already proven himself in English football.

Equally, the 5 foot 7 dynamo could prove something of a difference-maker for the Gunners against the division's elite sides, having notably netted a hat-trick against Liverpool earlier this season, while also scoring against both Manchester City and Chelsea back in October.

To be able to recruit an asset who is seemingly not overawed by the big occasion could well prove vital for Arteta heading into the second half of the season, with the Spaniard in need of an array of attacking weapons to help maintain this current title charge.
