Mikel Arteta reveals that he expects William Saliba to remain at Arsenal

Arsenal started their 2019/20 season with a 1-0 win against Newcastle - who was the club's only goalscorer?

During this press conference, the Spaniard was asked if is expecting any players in his squad to leave the club on loan anytime soon, specifically Saliba.

In response, Arteta said that he does not expect any players, including Saliba, to be leaving the club on a loan deal “at the moment.”

Arsenal signed the defender back in the 2019 summer transfer window from French club Saint Etienne for a fee of £27 million. After signing for Arsenal, Saliba remained at Saint Etienne on loan for the 2019/20 season.

So far, the Frenchman, who is currently valued at £20.25 million, has only made one appearance for the Arsenal U23 team and has yet to make a senior appearance for Arteta’s side.

According to WhoScored, Saliba’s strengths include his ability to intercept the ball from opponents as well as his high concentration levels during matches, which could well make him a useful asset for Arsenal defensively.

If Saliba isn’t expected to leave Arsenal before the domestic transfer summer transfer window closes on Friday, this could suggest that Arteta has plans to use the defender in his squad at some point throughout the season.

Moving forward, it’ll be interesting to see just how many appearances, if any, the defender ends up making for Arsenal throughout the rest of the season.
