Arsenal sporting director Edu Gaspar could end the club's January transfer window with a bang by swooping for Lazio star Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.

According to Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport (via Sport Witness), the Gunners have been in contact with his agent, Mateja Kezman, over a potential move.

The 27-year-old midfielder is under contract until 2024, so the Serie A outfit are still in a strong negotiating position - and it's thought they would like to renew his current deal too - so a move in the summer seems more likely.

However, a switch this month cannot be ruled out if the right offer arrives.

What that fee might be remains to be seen, though Il Messaggero (via Calciomercato) suggests it could be in the region of €120m (£106m).

The north Londoners, who currently top the Premier League standings heading into the final half of the season, have also been linked with a big-money move for Mykhalo Mudryk for several months.

90min believe that Shakhtar Donetsk are holding out for a whopping £90m, so both deals won't be easy or cheap to complete but bringing in Savic on top of Mudryk would surely be the cherry on top.

The Serbia international is a truly elite talent, one that has earned statistical comparisons to players like Jude Bellingham, Leon Goretzka and Federico Valverde by FBref.

And when compared to his positional peers across Europe's top-five divisions, he ranks inside the top 2% for assists, the top 6% for total shots, the top 19% for shot-creating actions, all per 90.

It is, therefore, little surprise to see him graded as Lazio's top performer in the Serie A so far this campaign, having averaged a rating of 7.27 on WhoScored.

This monstrous midfielder could be an instant upgrade to Mikel Arteta's current options in Granit Xhaka and Thomas Partey, who despite being an integral part of the success so far, just aren't on the same level as the Serb.

Edu could end this January window with an almighty bang by bringing Savic - who journalist Sacha Pisani dubbed as "a different beast" - to the Emirates Stadium alongside Mudryk.
