Aston Villa have shown an interest in the Villarreal forward Arnaut Danjuma this month over a potential return back to the Premier League.

What's the latest?

There are a number of clubs believed to have the 25-year-old on their radar this month with Everton and Villa both credited as potential suitors by insider Dean Jones.

Rounding up the latest transfer rumours on his Ranks FC Transfer Show, the insider has suggested Unai Emery would be keen on a potential reunion with his former Villarreal star and hinted that the door remains open for Villa to swoop in, with the Dutchman's future not yet decided amid links to Premier League rivals Everton and Nottingham Forest.

He said: "I mean, one of the messages that I got not even two weeks ago on Danjuma, probably 10 days ago, maybe less, was that Villa were in for Danjuma and the biggest obstacle was they were finding it really hard to read from the Villarreal end whether he was gettable.

"This is a club that is really hard to read. And yes, they are interested in Danjuma. But they can't tell whether he's actually going to be gettable. And so this is why I think we've included this story basically is because if Danjuma is genuinely open and available to join Everton or Nottingham Forest, surely Aston Villa are in this conversation, too."

However, it does seem as if the interest coming from Villa Park could well be rivalled by the Toffees who are believed to be in search of some further firepower up top this month.

But with Everton potentially being restricted by FFP this month, it could leave the door open for Emery to orchestrate a reunion with the Dutchman this month.

Emery trusting former players

On top of Danjuma, Villa have also been linked with a potential move for Emery's former Arsenal midfielder, Matteo Guendouzi, this month.

And this does suggest the Spaniard is looking to potentially carry over a similar transfer strategy to what we have seen at Manchester United with Erik ten Hag.

The Dutch manager has trusted his former players from his time at Ajax with the additions of Lisandro Martinez and Antony during the summer window.

This could potentially be the case this month with Emery as the Spaniard is clearly showing an interest in players from his time with Arsenal and Villarreal already.

Danjuma is currently having some issues in front of goal with just two to show in 10 La Liga appearances so far this season with four more goals coming in the Conference League and Copa del Rey (via Transfermarkt).

However, under Emery, the Dutchman had his most prolific run of form with a return of 19 goals in 43 appearances across all competitions.

During his time at Bournemouth, Danjuma did struggle in the Premier League having failed to score in any of his 14 appearances in the 2019/20 campaign.

But given his current form in La Liga, we do wonder whether a potential reunion with Emery could appeal to him on top of an opportunity to give the Premier League another shot.
