Aston Villa have been offered the opportunity to bring in the former Premier League forward, Gerard Deulofeu, in this month's transfer window.

What's the latest?

TalkSport insider Alex Crook has claimed Unai Emery has been offered the chance to bring in an experienced forward to his Aston Villa squad this month in his first transfer window with the Premier League side.

Deulofeu has now been playing outside of England for a number of months now after making a permanent move away from Watford to the Serie A outfit Udinese in 2021.

Despite playing a big role in the Italian side this season, it seems as if his time with Udinese could be coming to an end having been offered away with Villa believed to be a potential landing spot for the 28-year-old:

(5:00) "Villa want to get new bodies through the building. I was told they've been offered Gerard Deulofeu, the former Watford winger, as a possible attacking signing this January," said Crook.

Emery eyeing experience

Deulofeu, who has been hailed as an "artist", has gained a lot of Premier League experience over the years having spent time with Everton and Watford in the past after joining the Toffees from Barcelona back in 2013.

Across his time at Goodison Park and Vicarage Road, the 28-year-old was able to rack up 127 appearances in the English top flight where he netted 20 goals and provided 24 assists (via Transfermarkt).

But it is in Italy where he has enjoyed, perhaps, some of his best football with the 2021/22 campaign in Serie A seeing the Spaniard provide a healthy return of 13 goals and five assists in his 34 league appearances.

His goals return this season has taken somewhat of a decline with the forward finding the back of the net just twice, however, he has provided Udinese with six assists in the league.

And it is apparent Villa are struggling for goals this season with their top scorer in the Premier League, Danny Ings, having netted just six times in the league.

In Deulofeu, they may not be getting a player who is going to necessarily provide a double-figure return season after season, however, as a collective, he could potentially help chip in some much-needed goals in that Villa side.

Over his 349-game career, the Spaniard has scored 79 goals and has demonstrated his ability to play in the Premier League with the 2018/19 season for Watford seeing him return 15 goal involvements in 30 appearances.

It may not be the glamourous signing some Villa fans may be hoping for under Emery, but perhaps it is a player Emery can get the best out of with the likes of Philippe Coutinho seriously underperforming at Villa Park.
