Aston Villa have been linked with a plethora of central midfield options so far this summer, with PSV Eindhoven ace Ibrahima Sangare one man touted for a switch to the Premier League.

What's the word?

While Steven Gerrard has already added Boubacar Kamara to his squad on a free transfer, the former Rangers boss is seemingly in the market for a box-to-box option ahead of next season, and the heavily linked Sangare could definitely fit that description.

Despite recent reports suggesting that the Ivory Coast international is keen to stay with the Eredivise side this summer, journalist Josh Holland believes that Villa could still make a move for him.

He told GiveMeSport: “I’ve been thinking and there are a few midfielders who I think Villa could go for. I know that Sangaré and PSV keeps on getting mentioned, and he’s got a release clause of £35m.”

Supporters will be buzzing

Considering Sangare's superb form for PSV last season, Villa fans would surely be delighted to see him make the move to the English Midlands this summer.

The 24-year-old made 29 appearances in the Dutch top flight, contributing three goals and two assists and averaging an impressive 7.49 rating from WhoScored for his performances.

Although it is difficult to compare the level of opposition, as the Premier League is a more competitive league, this average rating would have comfortably seen Sangare finish as Villa's top performer had he replicated that form in Gerrard's side last season.

His 3.3 tackles per game was also more than any Villa player managed, which suggests that he could add some defensive steel to Gerrard's midfield next term.

According to WhoScored, the 24-year-old's strengths include interceptions, tackling, passing, aerial duels, dribbling and blocking the ball, all of which mark him out as an excellent modern defensive midfielder.

Therefore, Villa fans will surely be delighted to hear that a move for Sangare could still be on the cards, as he would undoubtedly add a lot of quality to Gerrard's squad.
