Aston Villa are reportedly interested in securing a transfer deadline day deal for Tottenham Hotspur winger Lucas Moura.

What's the news?

According to a recent report from The Telegraph, Villa have an interest in the Brazilian and are considering a deadline day move for him "amid last-ditch negotiations from clubs for wide forwards."

Bearing in mind how the Villans were on the verge of signing Ismaila Sarr from Watford before the deal fell through, it's easy to see why they are looking at Moura as a potential option for them to sign before tonight's deadline.

Spurs signed the 30-year-old back in January 2018. Since then, the attacker has gone on to score 38 goals and provide 27 assists in 204 appearances across all competitions.

Imagine him & Coutinho

The January transfer window saw the Villans bring another Brazilian attacker to Villa Park in the shape of Philippe Coutinho, who quickly showed why the club were right to sign him on an initial loan deal before making him a permanent signing in May.

In 19 Premier League appearances last season, the attacker found the net five times and delivered three assists.

In fact, the Villa star had an expected goals tally of 3.7, which is the same rating that Moura had at Tottenham in 2021/22 as well, highlighting the attacking talent that the Brazilian duo boast.

With both players racking up more than 20 crosses each and having an almost identical rate of goal-creating actions per 90 minutes last season (0.46 vs 0.49), this further shows how dangerous the pair are and why they could form a deadly duo in Steven Gerrard's side.

Described by Eric Dier as being a "nightmare" to train against due to his attacking talent, the £80k-per-week star could be a fine addition to Villa's ranks, especially since only four clubs have scored fewer Premier League goals than Gerrard's side (four) so far this term.

Taking into account how the Spurs figure has only played 12 minutes of league action in 2022/23 so far, sealing a move to Villa to play alongside compatriot Coutinho on a regular basis could be a very tempting prospect for him.

With the transfer deadline now only a few hours away, securing a deal for Moura could be very beneficial for the Midlands club and give them an extra attacking figure in their squad.
