Preview: Aston Villa XI vs Man Utd – predicted lineup, latest team and injury news

After going away to Chelsea and securing a superb 1-1 draw, Aston Villa take on another one of the Premier League’s big boys when they travel to Manchester United on Friday night.

Dean Smith’s side can deliver a huge statement about their ambitions this season with a result at Old Trafford, and they are also set to be boosted by the returns of a couple of key players.

And with that in mind, below is a look at just how Villa might line up against Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men.

In front of Emiliano Martinez, Smith will have to make his first major call regarding team selection, with Tyrone Mings back from his one-match ban after picking up a red card against Crystal Palace.

The centre-back should come straight into the team at the expense of Kortney Hause, which is unfortunate given how both he and Ezri Konsa helped earn a point at Stamford Bridge last time out.

That should be the only change to the back-four, with Douglas Luiz and John McGinn continuing their partnership in the middle of the park.

Further forward, the £90k-a-week earning Ross Barkley looks set to return to action, and Smith may well be tempted to throw him straight back into the line-up too, just like Mings.

Who scored the winner against Arsenal in Villa's penultimate game of last season?

That would allow Jack Grealish to move over to the left, whilst the in-form Anwar El Ghazi, who struck again in the Premier League against Chelsea, could move over to the right.

Up front, Ollie Watkins will hope get back to his goal-scoring ways after failing to find the back of the net against Frank Lampard’s men.

Predicted XI: Martinez; Cash, Konsa, Mings, Targett; Luiz, McGinn; El Ghazi, Barkley, Grealish; Watkins.
