Aston Villa have a great opportunity to put their disappointing 1-0 defeat against Newcastle United behind them this weekend with their upcoming Premier League clash against Roy Hodgson's relegation-battling Watford.

After the defeat at St James' Park, Villa manager Steven Gerrard stated that "some changes in the team need to happen", which suggests that the starting XI to take on the Hornets next weekend could look rather different to the one he put out against Newcastle.

On the chalkboard

With that in mind, one player who didn't feature from the off against the Magpies but we think should be in with a shout of starting at the weekend is Leon Bailey.

After recovering from a thigh injury which has kept him out of action since their 2-1 defeat to Manchester City in early December, the Jamaican - who is currently earning £85k-per-week according to Salary Sport - made his return as a substitute in the second half of the defeat against Eddie Howe's side.

In his first four league appearances for the Villans since arriving from Bayer Leverkusen last August in a deal worth a reported £25m, Bailey scored one goal and provided two assists, highlighting the attacking talent he has and what a danger he can be going forward.

Even though the winger had failed to register a goal contribution in his last five league games prior to the thigh injury, Gerrard will undoubtedly see the 24-year-old as a potential attacking option for next weekend's clash if the Villa boss is adamant in making some changes to his team.

Labelled a player who "can do anything" by former Leverkusen coach Heiko Herrlich, a fully-fit Bailey could be just what Villa need if they are to turn their form around and get some wins under their belt after only winning one of their six previous league games.

Who could the Jamaica international replace in the team?

Emi Buendia played on the right-wing position against Newcastle but failed to have even one shot on target and was arguably at fault for their goal by deflecting Kieran Trippier's free-kick past Emi Martinez, so he could be in danger of dropping out if Gerrard wants to bring Bailey back into the starting XI.
