Having been very busy during the previous summer and winter transfer windows, it seems as though Aston Villa may have already got an idea regarding their plans for the upcoming window.

What's the talk?

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, journalist Tom Collomosse had this to say about the upcoming summer transfer window and which area Villa could look to strengthen their squad when it opens.

He said: "So, they’ve only actually got three specialist centre-halves at the moment, but that’s definitely an area that he’s [Steven Gerrard] looking to improve. And it wouldn’t surprise me if there’s one who comes in between now and the start of next season."

Villa currently have four senior centre-backs in their squad with Tyrone Mings, Ezri Konsa, Calum Chambers and Kortney Hause.

Last month, after saying goodbye to Axel Tuanzebe once his loan deal at Villa Park was cut short by Manchester United, who then loaned him back out to Italian side Napoli, the Midlands club then managed to secure the signing of Chambers on a free transfer from Arsenal and tie Hause down to a new contract.

Fans will be excited

Despite strengthening at the back in January, it's interesting to hear that Collomosse thinks the Midlands outfit will be on the lookout for another defender in the summer, which will surely excite a lot of Villa fans and give them something to look forward to when the season ends.

Taking into account how Gerrard's side have conceded 36 goals in 23 league games this season, more than the likes of Burnley, Crystal Palace and Brighton & Hove Albion, perhaps it could be more a case of adding some extra quality rather than just adding another defensive option if they do bring a new defender in when the transfer window opens.

Moving forward, if Villa can end the season in or around the European places in the Premier League table, this could give them more of a chance to secure a top-quality defender that would want to come in and play under Gerrard.

Either way, the club have shown in the past that they are not shy in spending significant amounts of money on new players, which could make it another busy transfer window for the Villans.
