Aston Villa have reportedly resurrected their interest in securing a summer transfer window move for Watford winger Ismaila Sarr.

What's the news?

According to a recent report from the Daily Mail, the Midlands club are seeing whether a deal for the winger can be revived before tonight's deadline after they saw a proposed £25m move for him collapse last month due to the structure of the deal and personal terms not being right.

Watford signed the Senegal international from Rennes in the summer of 2019 in a deal worth a reported £40m.

Since then, the 24-year-old has gone on to make 97 appearances for the Hornets across all competitions, scoring 26 goals and providing 19 assists along the way.

Gerrard would be delighted

In five Championship appearances so far this season, the winger has two goals and one assist to his name. To further highlight his attacking prowess, only Joao Pedro (2.2) has a higher average for shots per game than Sarr (two) at Vicarage Road.

This average would put him at the top of the list for the same statistic at Villa alongside Diego Carlos, who has also averaged two shots at goal per game this term.

Hailed by ex-Hornets team-mate Ben Foster as a "scary" player due to his attacking power, the goalkeeper waxed lyrical about the Senegalese dynamo.

The veteran goalkeeper also said: "Once he can start to really drill down on what he knows he can do, yeah, the world is his oyster. Honestly, like I say, the speed and the awareness, the touch, the precision, he's got all of it."

Taking into account how Villa have the third-lowest rate for shots per 90 minutes (10.6) in the Premier League at this stage of the campaign, adding a player like Sarr to their ranks - who has proved how much of a nuisance he can be for opposition goalkeepers - could be just what they need to add an extra attacking spark to their side.

If Villa are able to successfully make this U-turn and finally secure a deal for the Watford star, this will surely have Steven Gerrard jumping for joy, with another player at his disposal who can hopefully get his team out of their current rough patch of form.
