After a stunning 3-0 victory over Arsenal just before the international break, Aston Villa were brought back down to Earth with a hugely disappointing 2-1 defeat at home to Brighton.

Dean Smith's side never looked like their normal selves, and managed just four attempts on target during the whole game. Despite that, they could have come away with at least a point had not it been for a real off day for Trezeguet.

The Egypt international - who played a major role in Villa's opening goal in the win over Arsenal - was as industrious as ever, winning five duels and making one tackle and interception apiece.

But it was his real lack of composure with the ball at his feet that really let his team down, and ensured they were never going to pick up a positive result on Saturday afternoon.

As per Sofascore, he lost possession 18 times over the course of the game, and failed to deliver a single accurate cross from the four that he attempted.

And most frustratingly for Smith, he just didn't have his shooting boots on. In total, Trezeguet had a massive seven attempts on goal, of which absolutely none of them were on target. In fact, the Egyptian had almost half the entire attempts that Villa had (15).

Whilst he was desperately unlucky not to have won his side a penalty in the dying moments after VAR's intervention, it almost summed up his performance. A lot of spark, but no real substance.

Smith will be hoping that Trezeguet's performance was just a one-off.
