Aston Villa: Emery can unearth his next Cavani in Rory Wilson

Aston Villa had enjoyed a fine turnaround before the World Cup-enforced break, with Unai Emery leading his new team to back-to-back Premier League victories to propel them to 12th in the division.

This six-week break will now allow the Spaniard ample time to truly exert his philosophy upon the Midlands outfit, with a view to bolstering his squad in January with some high-profile names.

The good news only continues too, with reports that a deal for young Rory Wilson has now been tied up.

Having left Rangers in the summer, the 16-year-old will earn his first professional deal following a stunning start to life at Villa Park.

Even teams like Manchester United and Newcastle United were keen on the marksman, but it was Steven Gerrard who tempted him with his Ibrox connection.

The Scotsman could hope to emulate one man who used to play for Emery’s former club, with Edinson Cavani having starred under him during his stint at Paris Saint-Germain.

In fact, the Uruguayan enjoyed his two best goalscoring seasons in the French capital under the tutelage of the new Villa boss, having scored 35 times in just 36 appearances during the 2016/17 season, and then a further 28 goals the season following.

Whilst that is a lofty ambition for Wilson to aim towards, his mindset suggests that it is well within his talents to do so.

He is noted as being “obsessed with becoming the best” by one of his national coaches James Grady, and someone who “wants to be the guy, the top goalscorer, the best trainer.”

His remarkable attitude has already seen him earn two appearances for the Premier League 2 despite his startling youth, where he even managed to score and assist.

Who did Villa sign 2014 World Cup enforcer Ron Vlaar from?

This comes after he was likely deemed a cut above under-18s football, where he quickly scored four in his first five.

The sky truly is the limit for Wilson, who has taken to life in his new surroundings with ease.

Boasting all the physical, technical and mental assets needed to succeed, it will likely not be long before he is emulating the goalscoring feats of Cavani for his new club.
