Aston Villa masterminded a sensational turnaround in form this weekend, as they ended their rut of just one win in nine with a fine 4-0 victory over Brentford.

It is fair to say this result came as a huge shock, especially following the dismissal of Steven Gerrard just three days ago.

Aaron Danks stepped up to the role of caretaker manager and offered a reshuffle that worked wonders.

Instead of opting for a 4-3-3 with the same old midfield, he decided to drop John McGinn in favour of the defensively sound Leander Dendoncker.

With the Belgian’s inclusion, it allowed the freedom for Emiliano Buendia to truly thrive in the number ten role.

Jacob Ramsey would normally occupy this more advanced midfield position, but after the performance of the Argentine yesterday, the England U21 international will certainly struggle to regain his place.

The 25-year-old Buendia played just 71 minutes, yet still managed two key passes, four shots and nine duels won during his time on the pitch.

It seems that in an advanced central position, with the defensive security behind him, he could attack or defend as he pleased to benefit the team accordingly.

With just one goal and one assist this season, Ramsey has been a big part of the underperformance of the squad. He has struggled in his role to link the defence to the attack and was shown exactly how it was done against the Bees this weekend.

Whilst Buendia’s stats are similarly terrible, his performance clearly outlines that he is wasted out wide.

He offers so much creativity and graft in the centre of the field, and now that Danks has realised this, he must continue to stick with his plan.

It is no surprise that whilst at Norwich City, journalist Jack Reeve wondered how they managed to keep ahold of such a “magical” player for as long as they did. A special player such as Buendia must be deployed where he can have the most influence on the game.

It could ignite a rich vein of form that might attract a higher calibre of manager, with some of the names touted seeming too good for a relegation battle.

Ramsey will now be worrying about his place in the side, as Danks may have unleashed a monster by moving the winger to the midfield.
