Aston Villa made many headlines during the previous summer transfer window when they sold their club captain Jack Grealish to fellow Premier League side Manchester City in a record-breaking deal worth £100m.

This wasn't the first time the two clubs have done transfer business over the past few years, with the Manchester club buying the likes of Gareth Barry, James Milner, Darius Vassell and Stuart Taylor from the Villans.

On the other side, the Midlands club have secured players from City such as Douglas Luiz, Shay Given, Richard Dunne, Stephen Ireland, Micah Richards and Scott Sinclair.

One other player that swapped the Midlands for Manchester is midfielder Fabian Delph, who signed to City back in the 2015 summer transfer window in a deal worth a reported fee of £8m.

This transfer sparked fury with a lot of fans at Villa Park as the Englishman claimed that he wouldn't be leaving the club, shortly before he then packed his bags and went to City.

During his time at the Manchester club, the midfield made 89 appearances across all competitions but could only find the back of the net five times with three assists delivered in the process.

After four years with Pep Guardiola's side, Delph then found himself getting moved out of the club in the 2019 summer transfer window after his current club Everton shelled out £9m for the Englishman and a salary of £92k-per-week.

Since then, the 32-year-old has only made 36 appearances for the Toffees, being labelled a "huge" player at one point during his stint. However, the truth is that he has yet to find himself on the scoresheet or provide an assist for any of his teammates in a dismal spell.

Shortly before he left Villa Park, Transfermarkt rated Delph's market value listed at £9m, whereas it now stands at just £2.7m, highlighting a major dip.

Taking all of this into account, it seems as though the Villa fans will have had the last laugh over their former club captain regardless of the fury his exit caused.

Also, with the Midlands club now having the likes of John McGinn, Douglas Luiz and Jacob Ramsey in their squad as midfield options, who have scored ten league goals and provided six assists between them this season, it's safe to say that not many at Villa Park will be too concerned about what their former midfield figure has been doing recently.
