Aston Villa have been linked with a move for Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain recently and if the Englishman were to join Steven Gerrard's side, it could be the catalyst for John McGinn leaving Villa Park.
According to Football Insider, Gerrard is a huge admirer of the former Arsenal man and has made him a priority signing this summer, with the transfer window now open.
The Villans have already brought in Boubacar Kamara, Diego Carlos, Robin Olsen and Philippe Coutinho on permanent deals ahead of the window officially opening but it seems as if their business is far from done.
Reports have suggested that Oxlade-Chamberlain would be available for as little as £10m this summer as he seeks out regular first-team football away from Anfield, although Manchester United have also been credited with an interest in the 28-year-old.
The midfielder was a peripheral member of Jurgen Klopp's squad last season, making just 17 starts in all competitions, but he has been key in the past, making 133 appearances for the Reds since his £35m switch from Arsenal in 2017, in which he has contributed 17 goals and 15 assists.
Although he has struggled with injury problems at times, his performances have still been impressive in previous seasons, and he could be a top player in Gerrard's side if given regular playing time.
If he were to arrive at Villa Park before the inauguration of the 2022/23 Premier League season, then it would perhaps not be a surprise if Scotland international John McGinn were to depart.
After an excellent season which saw the former Hearts man ranked as the top performer in Villa's squad according to WhoScored, he has been linked with a move away from Villa Park, with Tottenham Hotspur amongst the sides said to be interested in signing him.
With Villa's interest in Yves Bissouma reportedly over, Gerrard will perhaps switch his attention to another central midfielder in Oxlade-Chamberlain, and at £10m he could be a bargain addition.
The Englishman could certainly add similar energy and dynamism to McGinn, with Klopp suggesting that despite his lack of first-team minutes last season, he is in "outstanding" shape, and he would perhaps be the ideal replacement for the 27-year-old if he does end up leaving, so Johan Lange should definitely try and bring him in.
