Aston Villa set to explore a deal to sign Joe Aribo from Rangers

A big update has emerged on Aston Villa and their interest in signing Joe Aribo in the summer transfer window…

What’s the talk?

Transfer insider Dean Jones has revealed that the club are set to explore a deal to sign the Nigeria international ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.

The reporter has claimed that the Gers midfielder has had a move to another team break down and Villa Park may now be an option for him.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “I think Aribo will become an option a bit later in the window from what I’m told.

“I think he had ideas of going somewhere else that have fallen through, and now they’re going to look at further options, and I know that Villa is just one of those that need to be explored. So that might happen but further down the line.”

Supporters will be excited

Villa supporters will be excited by this claim as Aribo would be an excellent signing for the club for a multitude of reasons.

Firstly, the gem has a pre-existing relationship with Steven Gerrard. The pair worked together at Rangers and this means that the midfielder would come in already knowing exactly what the manager wants from him, allowing him to hit the ground running instead of taking time to adjust to the coach’s way of playing.

Aribo is also a versatile player who can be used in a variety of positions. Whilst his main position is in a number 10 role, he has also played out on the wing, in central midfield, and as a false nine during his time in Scotland with the Light Blues.

Along with his versatility, the ex-Charlton man has also showcased his quality in Glasgow. In the Premiership, he averaged an excellent SofaScore rating of 7.07 as he scored eight goals and provided five assists – creating nine ‘big chances’ in total.

David Ginola at Aston Villa

First up, who did Aston Villa sign David Ginola from in 2000?

He also scored a goal in the final of the Europa League as he played 15 games in their European run – losing to Frankfurt at the final hurdle – and this shows that he has the quality to perform in high-pressure settings at the top level.

Therefore, for all of the reasons listed above, Aribo would be a superb addition to Gerrard’s squad and that is why fans will be excited by the prospect of the club pursuing him in the coming weeks.
