An update has emerged regarding Arsenal's interest in Aston Villa transfer target Tammy Abraham.

What's the talk?

According to The Telegraph, the Gunners are showing an interest in the Chelsea striker as they look to replace Alexandre Lacazette, on whom they want to cash in.

The report claims that Abraham has been offered to Tottenham and Borussia Dortmund, whilst the Blues value him at £40m. West Ham and Aston Villa are also reportedly chasing the striker, with Thomas Tuchel deciding that the 23-year-old is not in his plans moving forward.

Get it done

Johan Lange must act swiftly to complete a deal for Abraham following this latest update. Chelsea are seemingly offering the forward out across Europe in hope of finding a buyer, and that is bad news for Villa as it increases the chances of another club deciding to sign him, whilst Arsenal's interest is also a cause for concern.

The Gunners can offer Premier League football and the prospect of challenging for Europe whilst playing alongside the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Nicolas Pepe. Villa may be able to convince Abraham that they can also compete for a European place, but the mounting speculation over Jack Grealish's future amid interest from Manchester City could negatively affect their efforts given how influential he has been.

Therefore, Lange must move quickly to make sure he can strike a deal with Chelsea before any of the other interested parties are able to reach an agreement. Getting a move signed and sealed hastily could allow Villa to usurp the likes of Arsenal and West Ham and give them the best chance of landing his services.

Abraham could be a terrific addition to Dean Smith's squad and improve their chances of a high Premier League finish next season if they can keep hold of Grealish. Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand was once full of praise for the former Villa loanee, comparing him to former Chelsea striker Didier Drogba after an impressive performance for the Blues.

He told BT Sport, as transcribed by The Daily Express: “I saw elements in Tammy's game today that I hadn't seen as much that I'd have liked to. His hold-up play, coming to the ball and bringing others into play.

“First half, one ball went up to him, Didier Drogba-esque, chests it down for someone, runs on for the next phase – I think he's developing nicely. He's scoring goals, he's scoring different types of goals and I think he's a threat.”

In the 2019/20 campaign, Abraham proved that he is capable of being a top-class Premier League performer in the centre-forward position. He provided 15 goals and three assists in 25 starts under Frank Lampard, averaging a WhoScored rating of 6.91.

This shows that he could provide Villa with another player who can score goals consistently in the top flight, which means that he could compete with Ollie Watkins or play alongside him to bolster the club's chances of breaking into the European places.

However, news of Arsenal's reported interest should hasten Villa's attempts to bring him to the Midlands in favour of a move across London.
