The Birmingham Mail’s Ashley Preece has delivered an update on Aston Villa’s chase for Bournemouth attacker Arnaut Danjuma.
Reports in recent days have suggested that the Midlands club have shown an interest in signing the 24-year-old this summer, and that they have already made an enquiry for him.
Preece has now dropped a teasing hint about Dean Smith’s side potentially making a move for the Netherlands international.
In a Q&A for The Birmingham Mail, he said: “Danjuma certainly fits the profile Villa are looking for; I’ve spoken to people at Bournemouth who have told me they haven’t received any bids for him yet. One to keep an eye on, that one.”
Danjuma was a key part of the Bournemouth side which only narrowly missed out on promotion straight back to the Premier League last season, netting 17 goals as the Cherries lost out in the Championship play-off semi-finals to Brentford.
Predominantly a left-winger, he can also operate on the right and even through the middle; and the Dutchman’s versatility would give Smith some much-needed strength in depth in the wide areas, especially with Trezeguet set to be out for a large chunk of the new season with injury.
Having already bought Emi Buendia from a Championship team, bringing in another star from one of the lower leagues is a sign that Villa are doing their homework on potential new signings this summer.
Only five other players outscored Danjuma in the Championship last season, while he was just outside the top five for assists also, having set up an impressive seven goals in the division.
That Preece has said it is a move which Villa fans should “keep an eye on” is sure to have them buzzing.
