According to Corriere dello Sport (via Sport Witness), Aston Villa appear to have joined the chase for Inter midfielder Christian Eriksen.

What's the story?

The Denmark international has had a nightmare time at the San Siro since joining from Premier League side Tottenham back in January 2020, and it appears his spell with the Serie A giants is already set to be over.

Italian publication Corriere dello Sport (via Sport Witness) claim that "there are enquiries conducted by intermediaries with West Ham and Aston Villa, but it’s not certain the Dane will eventually accept either of those destinations".

Better than Barkley

Whilst his time at Inter may not have gone the way he might have planned, it would be foolish to completely write Eriksen off, especially given that he was only playing Premier League football just a year ago.

And his long spell with Spurs really showcased his play-making talents, with the Dane registering an impressive total of 89 assists in just 305 games for the club.

That led Mauricio Pochettino to declare: "He is so special and we always call him Golazo, because he is capable of scoring unbelievable goals. The recognition from us is massive."

The £31.5m-rated star with his proven Premier League track record, and vast experience of the top-flight, would surely represent an upgrade on Villa loanee Ross Barkley.

Eriksen proved himself in the Premier League for a number of years and did so consistently, whilst Barkley's career has been more topsy-turvy, with a spell at Villa designed to try and resurrect his career. If Johan Lange can pull off a swoop for the former, it would be an absolute masterclass.
