An update has emerged on Aston Villa's Philippe Coutinho and interest in his services this week...

What's the talk?

According to The Sun, the Brazilian midfielder is attracting the eyes of Turkish giants Galatasaray, who are keen on snapping him up on loan for the remainder of the campaign.

The report claims that the Super Lig outfit would be interested in an initial loan but Villa want to recoup as much of the £17m they spent on him last summer as possible.

It is stated that the deadline for the Turkish transfer window is on Wednesday and a deal for the £125k-per-week winger must be agreed and completed before it passes.

It's time to go

Unai Emery must brutally ditch the former Barcelona attacker as he has not been good enough in the Premier League this season and his exit would not be a major blow to the side.

The Spanish head coach must allow him to join the Turkish side on loan and push Johan Lange to ensure that Galatasaray have an option to make it permanent, given that the club are looking to recoup some of the fee they paid, to find a full-time solution in the summer.

Earlier this season, Gabriel Agbonlahor suggested that the midfielder had got "comfortable" and needed to "wake up" after missing out on a place in the Brazil squad for the 2022 World Cup.

The statistics back that up as Coutinho's form has been dire this term. In the top flight, the 30-year-old has averaged a Sofascore rating of 6.58 across 18 appearances in the division and failed to contribute with a single goal or assist, despite being one of the club's top earners.

Only four players in the Villa squad, including rarely-seen so far Calum Chambers, Diego Carlos, Alex Moreno and Cameron Archer, have lower average ratings than the Brazilian.

This indicates that Coutinho has been one of the worst-performing players at the club in the Premier League this season and his attacking play is not making up for his disappointing all-round displays, as he ranks 11th in the squad for chances created per match (0.4) and has not scored a single goal.

Therefore, the time is right to part ways with the midfielder as the 30-year-old's statistics show that he is not providing value for the significant wages being earned.

Emery must now sanction an exit to Galatasaray, hopefully on loan with an option or obligation to make it permanent, before the Turkish deadline on Wednesday.
