Aston Villa: Emi Martinez’s immediate future is not in doubt

A journalist has rejected the notion that Aston Villa goalkeeper Emi Martinez could leave due to his relationship with Unai Emery…

What’s the talk?

In November, Football Insider reported that the shot-stopper’s future at the club was in doubt due to ‘friction’ with the head coach that has carried over from a falling out they had whilst at Arsenal together.

However, reporter Dean Jones has dismissed that suggestion and claimed that there is nothing for Villa supporters to concern themselves with.

The journalist told GIVEMESPORT: “I’m told that there’s not a problem that anybody needs to worry about in this moment.

“I don’t think there’s any impact on Martinez’s immediate future.”

Huge boost

This update comes as a huge boost for Villa as losing the Argentine because of his relationship with Emery would be a disaster for the club.

The pair worked together at The Emirates and Football Insider’s claim about the tension between them was worrying at the time, as it could have resulted in a standoff that forced the goalkeeper to move on to pastures new.

Have you been impressed by Martinez at the World Cup?

Instead, it appears as though there are no existing issues between the pair that will cause any need for action in the January transfer window and this suggests that Martinez will remain the number one at Villa Park for the foreseeable future.

This is significant for Villa, particularly given his impressive form at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. He has kept two clean sheets in four appearances in the competition and is set to face off against the Netherlands in the quarter-finals later this week.

The official Argentina national team account Tweeted that the entire country embraced him after their win over Australia in the last 16 of the tournament, as he made a gigantic save to stop Garang Kuol from equalising with one of the final kicks of the match.

Who did Villa sign 2014 World Cup enforcer Ron Vlaar from?

His terrific stop essentially won them the match, as his side were 2-1 up at the time, and the gem will now be full of confidence heading into their last eight tie.

He has been in terrific form for his country since the start of 2021, keeping 16 clean sheets and only losing once in 23 appearances for Argentina.

Martinez, who has averaged a Sofascore rating of 6.91 in 15 Premier League outings this term, is proving his quality on the world stage and is showing why he can be a crucial player for Emery at Villa Park in the years to come, which is why his future not being in doubt is a huge boost.
