Aston Villa had a very disappointing start to their Premier League campaign with a 2-0 defeat to newly-promoted Bournemouth yesterday, and now a new update from a reliable source has emerged on further transfer plans following the loss.

What's the latest?

According to The Athletic's Aston Villa reporter Gregg Evans, the club could make "one more" incoming transfer this summer.

Evans responded to a fan in a Q&A via The Athletic:

"The plan was to look at these first few games and see if there were any major areas of weakness + injuries to decide whether any other players will come in.

"I think they'll do one more, somewhere in the attacking area. Key is moving players on, though. Way too many at the club now."

Gerrard needs to act now

There is no doubt that Steven Gerrard will be frustrated with the result yesterday, particularly given their summer additions. However, it's clear that not even a host of new names is enough with the further need for more signings at the club now rather evident.

The Villa boss did not mince his words when reacting to the result and performance at the Vitality Stadium:

“A really frustrating result and a frustrating day," he began.

“We got what we deserved over the course of the game. A lot of focus will be on two set play moments but if you look across the board and across the game we haven’t shown enough quality.

Despite having a large squad at Villa Park, the club have witnessed ten outgoings so far in the current transfer window, with Carney Chukwuemeka, Trezeguet and Matt Targett making permanent moves away from the club.

As a result, the Liverpudlian needs to react pretty immediately to strengthen the squad before the window closes on September 1st.

The Villans were toothless in attack on Saturday as they failed to score but Gerrard did bring in another offensive player, it would beg the question of how they would fit in the team. Conceding two goals from set plays was also rather sloppy and thus, if there are any finances left in the kitty, Johan Lange and co must do things quickly in order to seal one or two final additions.

Conor Gallagher, Konrad Laimer and Otavio have all been speculated with a move to the club this summer, however, as of yet, there have been no attempts to sign or advance on interest for any of these players.

With that being said, there is no doubt that the Villa boss will be considering his options whilst the window remains open. Though, it may be the case that the new signings need more time to settle into the team and the club may opt for trusting in the squad they already have until January. Either way, something has to click after their frustrating season last time out.
