The January transfer window slammed shut earlier this week and Aston Villa did not add to their options out wide by bringing in a new signing before the deadline passed on Tuesday night.

Unai Emery did recall Bertrand Traore from his spell out on loan but the attacker is currently injured and is not expected to be back for a few weeks.

90min recently reported that the Villans, alongside Newcastle United and Leicester, attempted to sign winger Jack Harrison from Premier League rivals Leeds United on deadline day.

The report claims that the former Manchester City man is considering his future at Elland Road as his contract is due to expire at the end of next season, whilst adding that the Whites pulled the plug on a £20m move to Leicester in the final hours of the window.

Emery must now push Johan Lange to go back in with another attempt to sign the English forward at the end of the season as Harrison could be a fantastic addition to the side.

Indeed, should Villa land the attacker in the summer transfer window, the 26-year-old could form an exciting partnership with striker Ollie Watkins at the top end of the pitch.

Since the team returned to action after the break for the 2022 World Cup, Watkins has been in scintillating form in the Premier League for Emery - scoring three goals and providing one assist in six appearances.

The England international had only found the back of the net twice in his first 14 appearances in the division this season and is now starting to show that he has the quality to be a reliable option at the top end of the pitch.

However, the forward must now sustain that form between now and the end of the season to prove that he can do it consistently, instead of having hot streaks.

Whilst Villa cannot do much to improve their team between now and the summer, Emery could improve Watkins' chances of increasing his goal output by bringing Harrison to the club ahead of the 2023/24 campaign.

The 26-year-old Leeds gem, who reporter James Marshment once dubbed almost "irreplaceable", has proven himself to be an excellent creator in the Premier League in recent seasons.

Harrison has created six 'big chances' and delivered 1.8 key passes per game in the top-flight this term, which is 0.5 more than any Villa player has managed per outing - Douglas Luiz's 1.3 being the highest - and that could make the Englishman Emery's most creative outlet if he arrives in the summer.

The Whites dynamo also produced 13 'big chances' in his first two Premier League campaigns for Leeds combined and averaged 1.6 key passes per match in 2020/21.

These statistics show that the winger has the quality to consistently create goalscoring opportunities for his teammates at this level and this indicates that the forward could be a dream player to play alongside Watkins.

Just imagine Harrison providing chance after chance, with his passing and crossing ability, for the current Villa centre-forward to punish teams in the Premier League next season. It's a mouth-watering thought.
