Despite securing their stay in the Premier League for at least another season, Dean Smith is adamant on making the moves in the ongoing summer transfer window and reinforcing his team.
Aston Villa are still on a hunt for a new striker after narrowly missing out on Callum Wilson who was ultimately signed by their rivals, Newcastle United. But there is already a clear alternative on the table for the Villains.
According to an exclusive report from The Sun, Smith is set to turn his gaze on the 20-year-old Rhian Brewster instead and is willing to spend the Wilson money to get him.
That means Villa have the firepower to meet the Reds’ £20m price tag and could suddenly become the frontrunners for the young talent’s signature.
Brewster himself is back at Liverpool after having spent some time on loan at Swansea City, where he thoroughly impressed. Jurgen Klopp could also be willing to let the youngster go in an attempt to raise some funds for further transfers in the summer window.
And while the 20-year-old forward would surely want to stay at Anfield for the upcoming campaign, the promise of regular football and of staying in the English top-flight just might be enough to lure him to Aston Villa.
It won’t exactly be cheap but Smith now has the funds to compete for Brewster’s services. It’s unexpected but could still become a reality sooner rather than later.
Let’s wait and see what happens next.
Brewster has been extremely prolific for the Swans and could surely do the same for the Villains in the upcoming season. £20m is not exactly pocket money but for such a talented striker, it could be well worth it.
All that remains is for Smith to pull the trigger and bring him to the club ahead of their rivals.
