Aston Villa look set to clinch yet another academy signing from West Brom, amid Ashley Preece's update on Tim Iroegbunam.

What's the story?

According to recent reports from Football Insider, Dean Smith's side had "agreed to pay a six-figure compensation fee to their rivals for Iroegbunam’s development costs".

And now, The Birmingham Mail's Preece has revealed that the deal is pretty much done, and that only confirmation is missing from rubberstamping this one.

He said: "Yes, Nobbie. Iroegbunam is all done; just waiting for confirmation. Academy news... it'll be exciting as to who heads out on loan knowing Kesler, Louie Barry, Raikhy, Brad Young haven't featured vs Walsall and Stoke. Elsewhere, Mo Sylla has rejected a new deal at Villa and I have been told he's walked away as he searches for a new club offering first-team football.

"Finley Thorndike (on trial); another WBA youngster who's a classy attacking midfielder. He's 19; Villa will assess him over the week."

Fans will be buzzing

Having already sealed a deal for another Baggies starlet in Finn Azaz, clinching the signing of Iroegbunam would be yet another statement of ambition that Villa are a club on the rise.

A profile piece done by The Birmingham Mail said of the teenager: "The 18-year-old, described as "combative and all-action" by Albion coaches, will look to link up with former teammate Louie Barry at Villa with the pair remaining close friends off the pitch. BirminghamLive has been told that Iroegbunam has turned down a new and improved contract at The Hawthorns in favour of moving to Villa Park."

While Iroegbunam is unlikely to come in and make an immediate impact on the first-team next season, it is yet another step in the right direction for ensuring Villa's future is bright.

A move for the teenager is made all the more sweeter by the fact he's another player who Villa have poached from their arch-rivals, following Azaz's recent arrival and the fact Louie Barry was, of course, once on the Baggies' books too.

Fans will be buzzing with Preece's latest update.
