Over recent years, since Aston Villa rejoined the Premier League, their owners have not been shy when it comes to spending money in the transfer market to bring new players to the club.

The latest of which being Lucas Digne, who has recently joined the Midlands club on a four-and-a-half-year deal worth a reported fee of £25m from fellow Premier League club Everton.

One player that signed to Villa under the ownership of Wes Edens and Nassef Sawiris is Egyptian winger Trezeguet, who the club landed back in the 2019 summer transfer window for a fee of £8.75m from Turkish club Kasimpasa.

Despite the fairly low transfer fee, the winger has only managed to score nine goals and provide five assists in 64 appearances across all competitions, which is far less than what the club would have hoped for at this stage when they signed him.

Combine that with the fact that the 27-year-old was recently labelled as "embarrassing" by pundit Alan Shearer as a result of an overly-dramatic attempt to win a penalty for Villa during their 2-1 defeat against Brentford and an argument could be made to axe him from the suad.

Add that to previous reports suggesting that the club could look to move him on this month after his involvement with Egypt at AFCON and it certainly looks like the right time to bring Trezeguet's time at Villa to an end.

In terms of who the Midlands club could look to bring in as a potential replacement for Trezeguet, they could focus on Juventus winger Dejan Kulusevski, with who they have been linked to in the past.

Boasting 53 goals and 45 assists across his club career so far, despite only being 21-years-old, the Swedish attacker would be an ideal long-term replacement for Trezeguet at Villa Park if Gerrard thinks he would be a useful addition to his squad.

Having been praised in the past for "his ability to combine technical quality with his physical output" on the pitch by Bruno Alves, Kulusevski certainly has the room to grow and develop his game even further if he were to make a move to England this month and get a taste of Premier League football.

As well as this, with Kulusevski having played across a number of midfield and attacking positions on the pitch, he'd be a very useful squad option for Gerrard rather than just being able to play on the wing, giving another reason as to why Johan Lange should try and sign the £27m-rated player this month.
