Aston Villa are interested in signing Trevoh Chalobah on loan before the end of the summer transfer window…
The arrival of Kalidou Koulibaly and the Blues’ desire to sign Wesley Fofana from Leicester City means the former England U21 international is likely to struggle for regular minutes under Thomas Tuchel this campaign.
A move to Villa Park for the season could be beneficial for all parties.
Villa boss Steven Gerrard needs further reinforcements to his backline following a serious injury to Diego Carlos in only the second game of the new campaign, whilst the 6 foot 3 colossus needs game time.
That also included a pair of league matches against Villa, where he was part of the Blues side that absolutely bullied Danny Ings and Ollie Watkins.
In the game at Stamford Bridge, the Villans duo were restricted to just two attempts on target with the former restricted to just four passes all game. Chalobah, meanwhile, racked up four tackles, five clearances and won a whopping 75% of his aerial duels, via SofaScore.
It was a similar story back in Birmingham, where in the 45 minutes the England youth international was on the pitch, Villa failed to register a shot on target or create a big chance. Both Ings and Watkins were graded below a mediocre 6.6 rating too.
Only Thiago Silva (7.08) managed a better average WhoScored rating for the 2021/22 campaign than Chalobah (7.03) when it came to Tuchel’s defensive options, so perhaps it should be a surprise to see the Englishman – who journalist Oliver Harbord dubbed an “exciting talent” – available for a move.
Also lauded as a “monster” by scout Jacek Kulig, it’s evident that Chalobah could be a short-term fix to Gerrard’s defensive conundrum and as such, sporting director Johan Lange should look to complete this loan move before time runs out.
The 23-year-old must become their sixth arrival of the summer.
