Aston Villa would be making a huge mistake by selling Trezeguet this window

Aston Villa could be on the verge of making a costly transfer decision if latest reports come to fruition…

What’s the word?

According to Turkish outlet Skor, Galatasaray boss Faith Terim is keen on signing Villa winger Trezeguet before the transfer deadline in two weeks time.

They claim that the Super Lig outfit have even contacted the 25-year-old’s agent over a potential move whilst Fenerbahce and Besiktas have both been linked with interest before.

Should Villa sell Trezeguet this summer?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

Trezeguet is under contract in the Midlands until 2023 after an £8m deal just last summer.

Sale = mistake?

It is true that Dean Smith has bolstered his front line with the additions of Ollie Watkins and Bertrand Traore, so the presence of Trezeguet may not be needed but with a long and congested season ahead, it’s important to keep numbers.

And aside from that, the wide man was one of Villa’s biggest goal threats outside skipper and talisman, Jack Grealish.

Trezeguet provided seven goals and three assists whilst averaging 1.5 shots, 0.9 dribbles and 0.6 key passes per game, via WhoScored.

His performances drew plenty of praise throughout the relegation-threatened campaign too, Smith labelled him “perfect” after a brace against Crystal Palace; international teammate Sam Morsy claimed he was an “unbelievable signing” that could produce “big things”; and Tyrone Mings hailed him as an “important player” for the club.

WHO IS THE PLAYER?

The Egyptian isn’t picking up too much on the wage bill either making him all the more worthwhile as a solid back-up to the incoming Traore.

He’s thought to only be raking in £32.5k-per-week, which is less than Tom Heaton, Wesley and Henri Lansbury.

Villa director of football Johan Lange can’t afford to tarnish his great summer of business by letting Trezeguet leave prematurely. It could well be one they live to regret.

AND in other news, Smith’s summer gamble on “immaculate” colossus instantly pays dividends
