An update has emerged on Aston Villa target Tammy Abraham and it's not great news for the club's supporters.

What's the talk?

According to Football Insider, Aston Villa are now tailing behind West Ham in the race to land Chelsea centre-forward Tammy Abraham this summer.

The report claims that Chelsea are looking for a fee in the region of £30-£35m for the striker, with Thomas Tuchel not seeing him as a part of his long-term plans at Stamford Bridge.

Fans will be livid

NSWE are facing a disaster with this news as the club appears set to miss out on a deal for Abraham to one of their rivals in the Premier League.

Villa could be competing alongside West Ham for a place in Europe next season and it could be a big blow if they allow the Hammers to land their former striker as his goals could help them finish above Dean Smith's side.

Supporters would be livid if West Ham beat Villa to the punch, especially given the connection that their club and Smith already have with Abraham.

The 23-year-old spent a season on loan at the club in the Championship and scored a terrific 26 goals in 39 games to help secure promotion back to the Premier League via the play-offs.

The Villa fans know exactly how good Abraham is and will realise that his potential move to West Ham is a blow to their side's chances next term.

Manchester United icon Rio Ferdinand once called Abraham “Drogba-esque” and highlighted how he is able to score a variety of goals while also holding the ball up for his teammates during the game.

He told BT Sport, as transcribed by The Express:

“I saw elements in Tammy's game today that I hadn't seen as much that I'd have liked to. His hold-up play, coming to the ball and bringing others into play.

“First half, one ball went up to him, Didier Drogba-esque, chests it down for someone, runs on for the next phase – I think he's developing nicely. He's scoring goals, he's scoring different types of goals and I think he's a threat.”

This shows how highly rated the £57.6k-per-week gem is and why NSWE are facing a disaster by allowing other teams around them to swoop for him.

Ollie Watkins (14) and Anwar El-Ghazi (10) were the only Villa players who managed more than seven Premier League goals last season and that suggests that Smith could do with another reliable goalscorer, which is another reason why Abraham should be heading to Villa Park.

Hopefully for Villa fans, the situation will change before the end of the window and Villa will be able to secure his services. At this moment in time, though, Villa appear to be heading for a disaster...
