Peterborough United Director of Football Barry Fry believes that Brentford striker Ivan Toney will go to the top and be an international player.

Toney signed for Peterborough in 2018 from Newcastle United and was superb for Posh as he scored 49 goals in 94 games and won the 2019/2020 Sky Bet League One Golden Boot with the club, netting 24 goals in the league.

After a brilliant spell with Peterborough, Toney signed for Brentford and made it back-to-back Golden Boot accolades, as he scored 31 goals in the Championship for the Bees last season.

As well as individual accolades, Toney also has a Championship play-off winners' medal after Brentford beat Swansea City 2-0 at Wembley to win promotion to the Premier League.

Fry was full of praise for the striker, telling Football FanCast: “He doesn't only score goals, he makes goals for others but also he’s the best defender in your team. When we had him, he went back for dead ball situations, corners, free kicks and nine out of ten he headed away, he’s an absolutely brilliant all-round player and he’s a leader in the dressing room.

“He’s so humble, he just wants to improve all the time and play and whether it’s with Brentford or anybody else, Ivan will go to the top and be an international player there’s no question about that. He was Golden Boot winner in League One, he’s Golden Boot winner in the Championship, he’ll be Golden Boot winner in the Premier League one day, no doubt about that at all in my mind.”

After winning promotion to the Premier League, Brentford entertain Arsenal on the opening night of the season, with manager Thomas Franks telling the Independent: “We are proud, we are excited, we can’t wait – but we want to go out there and prove ourselves.”
