According to Sport BILD, Bayern Munich are interested in RB Leipzig star Dayor Upamecano and could rival Arsenal for his services.

What's the word, then?

Bild have confirmed that Die Roten are quite interested in Upamecano, similar to back in 2016 when technical director Michael Reschke ultimately refused the transfer. But since a move from Leipzig to Salszburg, he's clearly done enough to catch the Bavarian giants' eye.

Quickfire Quiz: How much do you know about Arsenal's history in the January transfer window?

It's important to note that Bild emphasise the deal is nowhere near certain and it's still fairly unknown what his final destination could be come the end of the transfer window, if he moves at all.

But for Bayern, this would be a wise addition.

Verdict

The Bavarians' interest in Upamecano doesn't really come as a big surprise.

When we take a look at their squad, with Niklas Sule still sidelined with an injury, Lucas Hernandez only recently returning from his and Jerome Boateng being linked with an exit, Bayern are looking thin in the centre-back position.

Getting another reliable addition to the existing core of players could go a long way to stabilising their defence and Upamecano offers plenty of longevity at just 21 years of age.

Since Bayern are usually fighting on multiple different fronts, tackling both European and domestic competitions, squad depth is essential.
