Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou has dropped an injury update concerning Hoops attacker Daizen Maeda.

What's the news?

Speaking after the Bhoys' 3-1 win over Ross County, during which the Japan forward was brought off at half-time after picking up a suspected injury in the first half, Postecoglou shed some light on the player and his current fitness situation.

The Hoops boss said of Maeda: "He got a bit of a knock, but he’s OK, it’s nothing serious. He’ll be fine."

Celtic signed the attacker from Yokohama F. Marinos last winter on a six-month loan deal with a compulsory purchase clause at the end of it.

Last season saw the 24-year-old make 21 appearances for the Premiership club across all competitions, during which he scored seven goals and provided five assists.

Big boost for Celtic

To further highlight his attacking prowess, the Japanese ace ended the 2021/22 Premiership campaign with a higher average for shots per game (2.1) than the likes of Giorgos Giakoumakis (two), Reo Hatate (1.7) and Tom Rogic (1.6).

His overall performances earned him a solid season rating of 7.07/10 from WhoScored, leaving only seven other Celtic players who are currently at the club with higher ratings.

This proves that not only was it a good bit of business from the Hoops to bring him to Glasgow in the first place, but also shows just how quickly he settled into Postecoglou's team.

Maeda's first-half performance at the weekend showed how dangerous he can be for opposition goalkeepers as had three shots at goal, which is more than either Jota or Liel Abada managed.

This highlights just how useful an attacking figure he is for the team and why it's such a big boost for Celtic to have him fit after his injury scare at the weekend.

With the Hoops aiming to make it three league wins out of three for the start of their new campaign against Kilmarnock on Sunday, having the 24-year-old potentially available for selection would surely give the champions a great chance of picking up another three points.
