Celtic: Anthony Joseph drops claim on Albian Ajeti

Sky Sports journalist Anthony Joseph has dropped a claim regarding the future of Celtic striker Albian Ajeti.

What’s the talk?

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the reporter reflected on the striker’s time at Parkhead so far, his current situation at the club and what his immediate future could look like.

Joseph said: “Ajeti has just not worked out. He signed for £4.5m in the [pandemic], he was living in a hotel, not really settling in at Celtic and hasn’t been able to set the world alight under Ange Postecoglou.

“He probably doesn’t fit into the way Postecoglou wants to play and unless he has a really good pre-season, which could happen, if they were to get a loan offer with an option to buy, Celtic would very much entertain that.”

As Joseph mentioned, the Hoops secured a £4.5m deal for Ajeti from Premier League club West Ham United in August 2020. Since then, the 25-year-old has made 48 appearances for the Hoops across all competitions but has only scored nine times.

Supporters will be thrilled

The Switzerland striker’s latest season in Glasgow saw him play just 17 times in all competitions, starting on six occasions and only scoring three goals, with a long-term hamstring injury not helping his cause.

First up in this Celtic transfer quiz, which club did Celtic sign Christopher Jullien from?

This makes it easy to see why Joseph has said that the centre-forward isn’t a good fit for this current Celtic side and why the club could be willing to entertain any potential offers which may come in for him from other clubs this summer.

Taking into account how Kyogo Furuhashi and Giorgos Giakoumakis scored 17 Premiership goals between them last season, it’s clear that the former West Ham attacker may find it difficult to be a regular figure for the Bhoys in their next campaign.

Should Celtic get rid of Ajeti this summer?

Should the 25-year-old find himself waving goodbye to Parkhead this summer, either on a permanent or loan deal, this would surely be great news for Celtic supporters, who may have had enough of the player not living up to expectations due to his inconsistency in front of goal.

If Postecoglou isn’t planning on giving Ajeti regular playing time next season, then the best option for all parties would surely be to find a club who would be willing to strike a deal for him this summer.
