Celtic suffer Sead Haksabanovic injury scare

Celtic are potentially facing another injury blow ahead of Saturday’s clash with Motherwell, amid concern over the fitness of summer signing, Sead Haksabanovic.

What’s the word?

As per the Scotsman, the 23-year-old was forced off just after the half-hour mark during Montenegro’s Nations League defeat to Finland on Monday evening, having had to undergo treatment after having been on the receiving end of a challenge.

The report suggests that the Hoops will ‘monitor’ the forward – who arrived on a five-year deal from Rubin Kazan in the recent window – ahead of this weekend’s meeting with Steven Hammell’s side at Parkhead.

Postecoglou will be worried

Manager Ange Postecoglou will likely be worried about the fitness of the 30-cap gem, with the 57-year-old already having a handful of other injury woes to contend with ahead of the return to club action.

It has proven a truly frustrating international break thus far with Haksabanovic now the fourth potential issue that has been picked up, with the Old Firm side’s squad depth likely to be well and truly tested moving forward.

Former Fir Park hero David Turnbull could potentially be a doubt to face his former club after pulling out of the Scotland squad last week, while striker Giorgos Giakoumakis has sparked concern amid reports of a leg complaint while away with Greece.

Fellow forward Daizen Maeda picked up a knock during Japan’s win over the United States on Friday, while the defensive pairing of Cameron Carter-Vickers and Carl Starfelt have also been absent of late with their own injury problems.

That mounting list of casualties will be of real frustration for the title-winning coach, with the former Yokohama boss likely to have been praying for his players to come through this week unscathed ahead of a hectic October which will see the Glasgow side play nine times across three competitions.

In the case of Haksabanovic, any absence will prove particularly frustrating as the one-time West Ham United man attempts to bed into his new surroundings, having thus far made just a solitary start in his four outings.

First up in this Celtic transfer quiz, which club did Celtic sign Christopher Jullien from?

The £4.95m-rated man has shown glimpses of his quality to date, however, having notably played his part in the Hoops’ goal vs Shakhtar Donetsk away in Warsaw, with it likely to be a real setback if he is to be kept on the sidelines in the coming weeks.

It will now be an anxious wait for Postecoglou and co to see who will be available as Scottish Premiership action gets back underway in just a few days’ time.
