Celtic: Keith Jackson drops Kyogo Furuhashi update

Keith Jackson has dropped a behind the scenes update on the current condition of Celtic centre-forward Kyogo Furuhashi.

What’s the latest?

In his recent collum for the Daily Record, the journalist suggested that, despite Ange Postecoglou’s claim that the Japan international’s hamstring injury will not rule him out of action for the remainder of the season, behind the scenes at Celtic Park, the Bhoys’ medical team have been discussing the possibility of sending the 27-year-old for surgery – something that typically takes around four months to fully recover from.

In his article, Jackson wrote: “If the injury has become so serious that it now requires surgery then Postecoglou’s insistence that the talisman will most certainly be back before the end of the season seems optimistic in the extreme.

“No matter what Postecoglou may say in public, behind the scenes, Celtic’s medical experts have been discussing the prospect of Furuhashi’s hamstring being put under the knife for an operation which normally requires around four months of full rehab time.”

Could Celtic win the title without Kyogo?

Postecoglou will be fuming

Considering just how well Kyogo has performed for Celtic since his move to Parkhead last summer, in addition to the fact that Postecoglou explicitly stated that the centre-forward would not be ruled out for the remainder of the current campaign due to injury, should the Japanese hitman ultimately have to go under the knife, it will undoubtedly be an outcome that will leave the 56-year-old Hoops boss fuming.

Indeed, the £4.95m-rated man has been in astonishing goalscoring form over his 26 appearances in all competitions this season, bagging eight in 14 Premiership fixtures, five over nine Europa League and Europa League qualifying matches and three in three League Cup outings – in addition to providing a further five assists over the same fixtures.

Furthermore, while Celtic have welcomed a new centre-forward to the club in the shape of Daizen Maeda this January, the fellow Japan international will also be unavailable for selection for the next few fixtures after being called up to Hajime Moriyasu’s international squad – once again leaving the Greek-Australian Bhoys manager extremely short of attacking options.

Indeed, the potential loss of Kyogo for the next four months will undoubtedly come as a huge blow to Celtic’s hopes of reclaiming their Premiership crown this season, as well as leaving Postecoglou rather red-faced following his previous comments regarding the striker’s recovery.
