Celtic have been dealt a late setback ahead of their Scottish Cup quarter-final clash this evening.
In recent comments cited by the Scottish Daily Express, Tam Courts revealed that all three of Ryan Edwards, Charlie Mulgrew and Dylan Levitt look set to be available for selection against Celtic tonight, while the Dundee United boss also revealed that he will make a late call as to whether Tony Watt will be fit enough to play some part against his former club.
Speaking about the current condition of his squad, Courts said: “Charlie and Dylan have both been training but Tony is one we are monitoring. Ryan Edwards is fine, he might have to go in and get his nose seen to in the summer but he’s a centre half and that comes with the territory.”
Considering just how important all four of Edwards, Mulgrew, Levitt and Watt are within the Dundee United first team, the news that the quartet could be set for a return to action against Celtic this evening is sure to have left Ange Postecoglou gutted.
Indeed, Mulgrew and Edwards have been extremely impressive in the heart of the Tangerines’ defence this season, with the former averaging a SofaScore match rating of 7.13 over his 23 Premiership appearances, while the latter has averaged a SofaScore match rating of 7.09 over his 28 league outings – scores which rank the duo as Dundee United’s second and third-best players in the division respectively.
Meanwhile, central midfielder Levitt has also averaged a highly impressive SofaScore match rating of 7.02 over his 17 league fixtures – ranking him as his side’s fifth-best performer in the Premiership – while Watt had bagged ten goals and averaged a SofaScore match rating of 7.01 over his 28 top-flight games – ranking the 28-year-old as the Terrors’ sixth-best player in the league this term.
As such, it is clear to see that the return of these four players will come as a huge blow to Celtic’s chances of leaving Tannadice with a victory this evening, with anything but a win being something that will leave the Parkhead faithful gutted – as Hoops supporters will be desperate for their club to seal yet another domestic treble this season.
