Ange Postecoglou's Celtic went into Thursday's Europa Conference League meeting with Bodo/Glimt knowing that their club had not won a knockout tie in European football after Christmas since 2004 - a record that the Hoops manager and his team would have undoubtedly been hoping to amend.

However, despite the Norwegian champions having not played a competitive fixture since mid-December, the visitors stunned the Parkhead crowd just six minutes into the match, with Runar Espejord slotting home from 12 yards after some excellent build-up play from Kjetil Knutsen's outfit.

Celtic appeared to be rocked by Bodo/Glimt's intensity throughout the remainder of the first half, with Tom Rogic and Matt O'Riley struggling to ever really get a foot on the ball in the middle of the park, while Daizen Maeda was also ineffective in his link-up play in the Bhoys' attack.

After the break - following what can only be assumed was a rocket from Postecoglou during the interval - the Hoops did begin to play with a bit more impetus, with Jota, Callum McGregor and Maeda all having chances.

However, it was Bodo/Glimt who would go on to double their advantage, as Ola Solbakken left Greg Taylor for dead on Celtic's left flank before Amahl Pellegrino poked home the visitors' second goal.

The Bhoys did manage to pull one goal back, as Josip Juranovic's near-post cross found Maeda, whose glancing header made its way past Nikita Haikin between the Bodo/Glimt sticks. However, the visitors almost immediately restored their two-goal lead, when Hugo Vetlesen's speculative long-range shot cruelly deflected off of Callum McGregor and looped over a helpless Joe Hart.

As is perhaps to be expected after such a result, a number of Postecoglou's side were far from their best on Thursday night, with Taylor, O'Riley and Rogic all having something of a game to forget against the Norwegians. However, it will undoubtedly be the latter of this trio who is most disappointed with his display last night, as the Australia international was very much a passenger in central midfield.

39 touches

Indeed, after somewhat surprisingly being given the nod ahead of Reo Hatate alongside O'Riley in the two more advanced positions in Postecoglou's midfield three, Rogic went on to prove that his selection from the start may have been an oversight on the part of the 56-year-old.

Over his 59 minutes on the pitch, the £1.35m-rated midfielder enjoyed just 39 touches of the ball - only eight more than Hart between the Celtic sticks. He completed 23 passes - just two more than the goalkeeper - and ceded possession of the ball on 10 separate occasions, meaning the 29-year-old lost the ball with every 3.9 touches.

These returns saw the £15k-per-week man earn a disappointing SofaScore match rating of 6.8, while the Daily Record's Michael Gannon awarded the 29-year-old a five in his own player ratings, as well as stating of Rogic's display: "Struggled to find time to get his foot on the ball as he was relentlessly pressed. Neat when he did get it but too often bypassed when Bodo were coming out. No shock to see subbed."

Indeed, in comparison to the returns of the Australian, over Hatate's 31 minutes on the pitch after replacing Rogic, the Japan international enjoyed 35 touches of the ball, completed 21 passes, had two shots at the Bodo/Glimt goal and made one tackle and one interception. These returns saw the 24-year-old earn a SofaScore match rating of 6.9.

As such, it is clear to see that the decision to select Rogic - dubbed the "Wizard of Oz" - ahead of Hatate was something of a mistake on the part of Postecoglou, whose side now have it all to do during the return leg in Norway next week.
