Celtic's summer business appears to be far from complete according to emerging reports this week...

What's the word?

According to The Scottish Sun, the Hoops have stepped up their interest in young Charlton Athletic starlet Alfie Doughty, who has been on Neil Lennon's radar for several months.

It's claimed that he could cost just £750k with the Addicks already rejecting a bid from Championship outfit Luton Town earlier in the window.

The Scottish champions are on the lookout for a new left-back, a position the versatile 20-year-old is able to play in despite primarily being a winger.

Potential gem?

Nick Hammond could land the Bhoys one for the future here and at a six-figure fee, it could be quite the coup later down the line.

The youngster enjoyed a starring role in Charlton's win over Swindon over the weekend whilst last season, he delivered two goals and four assists from 29 league appearances and averaged 1.3 dribbles, 1.2 tackles, 1.1 interceptions and 0.8 crosses per game, via WhoScored.

Under the right coaching, he could certainly go onto become a star and given his mooted position at Parkhead, might he be a Kieran Tierney in the making?

Former Kingstonian boss Leigh Dynan, who gave him his first chance at senior level, believes Doughty is a "tremendous footballer" with "a big future," he added: "His athleticism caught the eye straight away. He has an eye for goal even playing down the left flank and has a great engine. He does both sides of the game [defending and attacking]. There’s a diamond there to be polished. I can assure you that."

Whilst his current manager Lee Bowyer hailed him as "outstanding" following his first venture into the left-back role.

Doughty is entering the final year of his contract at The Valley, so it would make sense for Hammond to swoop in now.

Neither Greg Taylor nor Moi Elyounoussi have proper competition in their roles, but the impressive starlet could cover both even at this stage in his career.

Playing in the SPFL could certainly help elevate his career onto the next level.

AND in other news, Celtic may have made a BIG mistake in not signing SPFL sensation...
