Celtic could make a serious statement with Ryan Sessegnon loan

Scottish champions Celtic have been linked with an audacious summer signing this week and it would be one that could be the difference-maker come to the end of the season…

What’s the word?

According to the Herald, the Hoops will battle it out with several Premier League clubs to secure promising Spurs youngster Ryan Sessegnon on loan before the transfer deadline.

The likes of Southampton, Brighton and newly-promoted Leeds United are all keen on bringing in the 2o-year-old left-winger.

Should Ryan Sessegnon join Celtic on loan?

Absolutely!

Absolutely!

No way!

No way!

He is yet to feature for Jose Mourinho this season and has slipped down the pecking order following the arrival of Sergio Reguilon from Real Madrid.

Major coup?

This would simply be one outstanding piece of business from Nick Hammond and the Bhoys hierarchy.

Neil Lennon’s switch to a three-at-the-back system has exacerbated the need for a true wing-back to feature over Greg Taylor and Sessegnon fits the bill perfectly as he’s able to play anywhere up the left flank.

Spurs splashed £25m on the young English sensation last summer, so that tells you all you need to know about his prospects and how much faith they have in him. He just needs to go out on loan to get valuable and regular match time before he eventually breaks into the first-team fold.

Those in north London saw glimpses of what the 20-year-old has to offer last season, most notably bagging a goal against Bayern Munich in the Champions League, the side that went on to win the whole competition.

General view of Celtic Park

What role did Celtic’s Celtic Park play in the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games?

Now valued at £22.5m by Transfermarkt, Sessegnon has been dubbed a “huge talent” by ex-Cottagers teammate Stefan Johansen, who also said: “He is a big, big talent. The sky is the limit for him. He may become one of the world’s best in his position.”

He’s even drawn lofty comparisons to both Gareth Bale and Raheem Sterling in the past, so Lennon needs to convince the wide man to make the switch to Parkhead at all costs.

It would be the signing of the summer in the SPFL and one surefire way to signal those ten-in-a-row intentions.

AND in other news, Celtic should sign “crafty” assist-king over Charlton’s Alfie Doughty
