Celtic were in hot form over the weekend as they secured an emphatic 7-0 victory against St. Johnstone in front of their home fans.

However, not everything went well for the Hoops, as striker Giorgos Giakoumakis was forced off the pitch with a suspected injury with just 27 minutes played, having found the back of the net only five minutes prior.

Speaking about the situation after the game, Ange Postecoglou had this to say.

He said: “I’m not too sure at the moment. He didn’t think it was too bad but he could feel something. It’s always a concern when players do that. He’s had an enormous load the last few weeks. It’s unfortunate for him but I’m hopeful he’ll still be available for us in the run-in."

With the Hoops set to take on their Old Firm rivals Rangers in the semi-final of the Scottish Cup on Sunday, this injury blow to Giakoumakis could pave the way for one other Celtic attacker to finally make his full return to action.

Opportunity knocks

Having spent a significant amount of time on the sidelines with an injury issue, Hoops striker Kyogo Furuhashi has been gradually getting back into the rhythm of playing games again by coming on as a substitute in the second half of the win against St. Johnstone.

With the Bhoys having a full week ahead of them before the cup showdown, this could give the £18k-per-week Japanese star a chance to make a return to the starting XI if the Greece international isn't available.

Since arriving at the Parkhead club during the previous summer transfer window from Vissel Kobe, the 27-year-old has scored 16 goals and provided five assists in 27 games across all competitions. With that in mind, it's no surprise to see John Hartson describe him as a "menace."

Also praised for his "outstanding" movement on the pitch by Hartson, the attacker certainly has what it takes to cause the defenders of Rangers massive problems at the weekend if he's fit enough to start.

Also, with Kyogo racking up a higher shot on target percentage (53.1%) than Giakoumakis (47.2%) in the league, he could potentially be a deadlier threat than his fellow striker.

This could then be the difference between Celtic making it through to the Scottish Cup final or not.
