Celtic are reportedly looking to part ways with striker Albian Ajeti, with the Swiss international failing to ever truly make his mark during his two-year spell at Parkhead, having initially signed on a £5m deal from West Ham United back in the summer of 2020.

The Hoops had seemingly been unperturbed by the forward's anonymous spell in east London - in which he failed to score in 12 games in all competitions - and opted to move regardless, with that decision having no doubt backfired following what's been a dismal stint in Glasgow for the 25-year-old.

The former Basel man has scored just nine goals and provided five assists in 48 games in all competitions for the Old Firm outfit - only 19 of which came from the start - having failed to impress both Neil Lennon and current boss Ange Postecoglou.

The latest indication is that the Scottish champions are now looking to move the 6 foot marksman on before the window slams shut, albeit with the £18k-per-week dud still having two years left to run on his current deal.

In truth, the £2.25m-rated man has seemingly never justified his rather sizeable price tag, with pundit Frank McAvennie insisting that the player has been "very lucky" to secure moves to clubs that are "better than him".

Where the forgotten figure ends up next remains to be seen, although there will be few tears shed among those at Celtic Park when he does depart, particularly with the club already having a player lying in wait to take his place in the first-team squad - Joey Dawson.

The 19-year-old striker - who is the nephew of former Tottenham Hotspur defender Michael Dawson - has made just a solitary senior appearance for the club thus far, having joined from Scunthorpe United last summer.

The teenager - who can also slot in in an attacking midfield role - is yet to truly force his way into Postecoglou's first-team reckoning, although the departure of Ajeti could well open the door for a more prominent role moving forward.

The "big centre-forward" - as dubbed by his uncle - could well offer another alternative to that of Kyogo Furuhashi and Giorgos Giakoumakis in attack, with such cover needed ahead of a campaign that will see the club compete both domestically and in Europe.

Although Dawson's impact has thus far been fleeting, he "acquitted himself well" during his debut against St Johnstone on Boxing Day - in the words of his manager - notably going close to capping his outing with a goal, only to see his effort cleared off the line.

The youngster's rise in the first team squad can hasten the exit of that man Ajeti, with supporters no doubt likely to prefer seeing an emerging talent handed a chance, ahead of a player who is developing into something of a wage burner.
