Celtic have seen several new faces join the Parkhead club during the latest summer transfer window such as Aaron Mooy, Moritz Jenz, Alexandro Bernabei and Benjamin Siegrist.

However, the Hoops have missed out on signing other players they were linked with earlier in the window such as Fausto Vera and Vinicius Souza.

Another player the Bhoys had been linked with that is reportedly set to join another club is Edouard Michut.

After being linked with a £2m move to Glasgow back in July, it has now been claimed by Fabrizio Romano that the midfielder is set to join Sunderland on loan from Paris Saint-Germain.

With that in mind, Celtic could well search for alternatives and they may well find that in Ross Barkley, another figure that's been mentioned with a move to Scotland.

In 349 club appearances across senior and youth sides, the midfielder has scored 53 goals and provided 44 assists in the process.

Michut has only made 18 appearances for PSG across their senior and youth sides, so the Chelsea midfielder certainly trumps the Frenchman in terms of top-level experience, which could make him a safer option to sign than the PSG starlet.

To give a further insight into what sort of player he is and what he'd be able to offer the Bhoys, former Chelsea player and manager, Frank Lampard, had this to say about him back in 2020.

"I think what he is doing is he is playing a very complete role. His work rate, for instance, is great, recovering, jumping out to defend at times from midfield areas.

"Obviously, he always has that goal threat with his technical qualities: right and left foot, great strikes. I have seen that and Ross has been absolutely dedicated to the cause. I am delighted with him and he just needs to keep those levels. There is more to come, there is more to come and his attitude has been first class."

Having missed out on Vera and Souza, with Michut now looking likely to join Sunderland, in addition to seeing the likes of Tom Rogic, Nir Bitton and Ismaila Soro make moves away from Celtic since the end of last season, securing a deal for Barkley would be a good idea.

He'd not only add some depth to that area of the squad but he'd also inject some extra talent and experience to Postecoglou's ranks that could give the Hoops a massive boost to their chances of having a successful season.
