Sky Sports journalist Anthony Joseph has dropped a claim regarding a potential move to Celtic for Jordan Larsson.

What's the talk?

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Joseph shed some new light on the situation.

He said of the 25-year-old: "Everyone’s seen the pictures of him as a little boy running around the pitch with his Dad.

"So, the emotional pull for that would be huge, but Celtic aren’t going down that path and certainly not yet and from what I’ve been told it’s unlikely Celtic will offer a contract to Jordan Larsson and make anything formal."

Having made 247 club appearances at senior and youth level across a variety of clubs, the striker has racked up 73 goals and 30 assists along the way.

Celtic supporters will be gutted

As the son of former Celtic star Henrik Larsson, who scored 242 goals in 315 games for the Hoops, the prospect of having him follow in his father's footsteps would surely have been a mouth-watering one for the Parkhead faithful.

However, now that Joseph has poured cold water on the possibility of Celtic securing a deal for the Swedish attacker, who is now a free agent following the expiry of his contract at Spartak Moscow, this will be a big blow to any Hoops supporters hoping to see the 25-year-old in Glasgow once again.

Even though Celtic already have a number of attacking options in their squad, it'll be interesting to see whether or not Ange Postecoglou decides to add another attacker to the ranks before the transfer window closes.

With the Hoops heading into the new season with a Premiership title to defend and a first Champions League group stage campaign since 2017/18, having as many suitable squad options as possible could be vital to the club's fortunes over the next few months.

However, it seems that Larsson will not be featuring in the squad seeking to steer Celtic towards their goals for the upcoming campaign.

Bearing in mind how the likes of Kyogo Furuhashi and Giorgos Giakoumakis racked up 25 Premiership goals between them last season and ended the campaign as the Hoops' top scorers in the league, it may have been a challenge for someone like Larsson to get regular minutes at Parkhead.

In terms of his next step, joining a club where he'd be able to play regularly would be the best move him.
