Anthony Joseph has dropped a fresh update on the future of Celtic goalkeeper Vasilis Barkas.

What's the talk?

In a recent post on Twitter, the Sky Sports journalist revealed that, while there has been interest in the 27-year-old shot-stopper in the January transfer window, as yet, no official offers have been made for the Greece international.

Previous reports had suggested that Barkas could be set for a departure from Parkhead this month, with Celtic believed to be open to a loan or a permanent move for the 'keeper.

However, in response to a fan asking for an update on the current situation of the goalkeeper, Joseph said: "There's been plenty of interest in him over the last couple of months, but not led to any bids."

Postecoglou will be fuming

While Ange Postecoglou has already secured the signings of four new additions in the January transfer window, the 56-year-old Bhoys boss has claimed that he will still be keeping a close eye on the market over the remainder of the month - with more deals likely to happen if Celtic can shift some of their fringe players.

And, considering the fact that Barkas is reported to be earning a whopping £20k-per-week at Parkhead, as well as having played just two games under the management of Postecoglou so far this season, the 27-year-old is undoubtedly a player the Hoops would like to see the back of this month.

Indeed, following his £4.5m move to Celtic back in the summer of 2020, the £1.35m-rated shot-stopper failed to cement his place as the Bhoys' number one over his 15 Premiership appearances last season, making an average of just one save and conceding 0.7 goals per game.

These returns saw the 'keeper earn a seasonal SofaScore rating of just 6.79, ranking him as the club’s joint ninth-worst performer in the league last time out.

As such, it is clear for all to see that Barkas is simply not of the standard required at Celtic, leading us to believe that the fact the Hoops are yet to receive a concrete offer for the Greek international this month will have left Posetcoglou fuming.
