While Ange Postecoglou's Celtic side have been one of the busier teams in the transfer market this January, welcoming no less than five fresh faces to Parkhead, there are nevertheless a couple of areas of the 56-year-old's squad that still require greater depth.

One such position is at left-back, with Greg Taylor being the Bhoys' only real senior option in the role - with Boli Bolingoli appearing to be out of Postecoglou's first-team plans, and Adam Montgomery looking likely to join Kilmarnock on a short-term loan deal.

As such, the 56-year-old Hoops boss could well look to bring a new addition into the position over what remains of the January transfer window, with Celtic having already been linked with a move for Hibernian starlet Josh Doig this month.

"One of the best"

It is easy to see why Celtic could be tempted into making a move for the 19-year-old prior to Monday's transfer deadline, as the defender proved last season that he is a player with an extraordinary amount of potential.

Indeed, over his 28 Premiership appearances in 2020/21, the £2.7m-rated teenager highly impressed for Hibs, helping his side keep four clean sheets, in addition to making an average of 0.8 interceptions, 1.5 tackles, 1,1 clearances and winning 4.1 duels - at a success rate of 52% - per game.

The Scotland U21 international who Charlie Nicholas dubbed "one of the best young players in the country" also chipped in for his side going forwards, scoring one goal, registering three assists and creating two big chances for his teammates, as well as taking an average of 0.7 shots and making 0.4 key passes per fixture.

These returns led to Doig being named the Scottish Football Writers' Association Young Player of the Year, something which demonstrates just how highly the youngster is thought of by those well and truly in the know.

As such, considering the fact that Celtic could easily do with greater depth at left-back, as well as Doig likely being available for a figure of around £4m, it would indeed appear a wise move for Postecoglou to sanction a swoop for the 19-year-old this month - as the Hibs starlet would not only be an upgrade on the likes of Bolingoli and Montgomery, but he could well go on to push Taylor for his starting spot in the Bhoys XI.
