Scottish champions Celtic are seemingly in line to wrap up their second January signing, with CF Montreal defender Alistair Johnston set to make the move to Parkhead.

What's the word?

According to BBC commentator Steve Wilson, as per the Daily Record, the deal for the 24-year-old is now all but done, having gone as far as to suggest that the Canadian international will 'definitely' join the Old Firm outfit in the New Year.

This follows a report from journalist Fabrizio Romano earlier this week which claimed that the Glasgow side had reached a "verbal agreement" for the former Nashville gem, with the player himself having also teased the move after suggesting it would be an "honour" to join Ange Postecoglou's side.

The suggestion is that the Hoops have now wrapped another new addition despite the winter window still being a month or so away, with the club having already confirmed the acquisition of Vissel Kobe centre-back, Yuki Kobayashi.

'Good move'

A new right-back recruit has seemingly been on the agenda for the Scottish Premiership side amid the ongoing uncertainty surrounding the future of Josip Juranovic, with recent reports suggesting that the club are willing to sell the Croatian ace in the New Year.

That comes amid reports that the 27-year-old - who arrived at Paradise just over a year ago - has seen a stall in contract negotiations with the Bhoys, having previously been linked with an exit over the summer.

Bringing in the aforementioned Johnston would certainly be an astute replacement as far as Postecoglou and co are concerned, with the 5 foot 11 ace having impressed in the MLS in recent times, providing eight goal involvements in 33 games in 2022.

It would seemingly represent a "good move" - in the words of Alexandre Gangue-Ruzic - for the Vancouver-born ace to make the switch to Glasgow, with his attacking quality seemingly an ideal fit for the club's progressive approach, as he notably ranks in the top 9% for dribbles completed across the world's next eight best leagues, as per FBref.

The tough-tackling ace would also seemingly relish the challenge of a feisty Old Firm derby or tough away trip to one of the division's so-called 'lesser sides', having previously opened up on his love for a physical battle and a firm challenge.

Such an all-round asset could be one to quickly emerge as a fans' favourite at Celtic Park, with the hope being that Johnston can replicate the impact of the likes of Matt O'Riley and Reo Hatate who thrived after joining the club back in January earlier this year.
