Celtic can land their next Jota by signing Rabbi Matondo

Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou had a very busy summer transfer period after he was appointed as the new manager at Parkhead back in June last year.

Numerous players were moved in and out of the club during the previous summer window on loan deals or permanent ones.

First up in this Celtic transfer quiz, which club did Celtic sign Christopher Jullien from?

One eye-catching deal that ended up proving to be a great bit of business from the Bhoys is their swoop for Benfica winger Jota.

Signed on a season-long loan deal from the Portuguese club, the 23-year-old ended up making 40 appearances for the Hoops across all competitions.

In those outings, Jota found the net 13 times and delivered 14 assists, highlighting just how much of a key attacking figure he was for the team.

Now that their title-winning season has come to a close, the summer transfer window will give Postecoglou another chance to make some changes to his squad ahead of their new campaign.

One figure that the Bhoys have been linked with that could be their next version of Jota is Rabbi Matondo.

After spending time in Manchester City’s youth ranks, the winger joined Schalke back in the 2019 January transfer window.

Since then, the player has had loan spells with Stoke City and Cercle Brugge.

During his time in Belgium this season, the 21-year-old scored ten goals and delivered two assists in 27 games, highlighting the attacking talent he has.

He also racked up a higher average of dribbles per game (1.7) than any other player at his latest loan club.

Described as having “electrifying” pace by Ryan Giggs, the £3.6m-rated attacker racked up more shots at goal (75) and shots on target (33) than any other player at the Belgian club.

In comparison with Jota, he racked up a similar number of attempts at goal in the SPFL with 76 shots and 28 shots on target.

If Postecoglou feels the need to add another attacking figure to his squad for Celtic’s next campaign where they’ll be looking to regain the SPFL title and do well in Europe, then Matondo could be a valid option to add to their ranks.
