Celtic could receive “big money offer” for Josip Juranovic

Celtic defender Josip Juranovic has been heavily linked with a move away from Parkhead of late, with the Old Firm outfit potentially willing to cash in on the Croatian in January.

What’s the word?

The latest suggestion is that the Scottish champions are “considering selling” the 27-year-old, according to Football Scotland’s Mark Hendry, with the Daily Mail also reporting that a departure could be on the cards after talks over a contract extension hit a stumbling block.

The former Legia Warsaw man – who still has just under four years left on his existing deal in Glasgow – had been linked with a move away from the club during the summer window, with the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea having been tipped for a potential £15m approach.

Journalist Pete O’Rourke – in an interview with Football FanCast – has now provided his thoughts on the 22-cap gem’s future, suggesting that Ange Postecoglou’s side would find it hard to rebuff a sizeable bid for his services.

The transfer insider stated: “If he goes and has a good World Cup with Croatia, I’m sure there will be clubs who will be maybe looking at him as a potential signing. So for Celtic they would find it hard to turn down a big money offer for him.

“But I think in January, I don’t see too many clubs maybe spending that money so summertime again might be a window where Celtic have to fend off interest in Juranovic.”

Postecoglou can strike gold

Whether it is in the winter window or in the summer, it looks as if Juranovic could well be on his way from Paradise sooner rather than later, with the Scottish Premiership side potentially able to strike gold with a hefty sale.

Postecoglou and co originally brought in the attacking full-back for a fee of just £2.5m back in the summer of 2021, although as O’Rourke alluded to, the Bhoys could well be able to secure a sizeable profit if they are to cash in on the player in the near future.

Although the impressive right-back had been “outstanding” last term – in the words of pundit John Hartson – his form has somewhat tailed off this time around, scoring just once and laying on one assist in all competitions so far this term.

Who is this former Celtic player?

Pundit Tam McManus suggested that the Zagreb-born ace has “disappointed” this season, amid that limited supply of goal involvements, with it perhaps not too great of a blow to allow him to depart.

With academy graduate Anthony Ralston already thriving – the Scotsman chipping in with three assists this season – and with reports suggesting that the club could be chasing Canada’s World Cup star Alistair Johnston, the loss of Juranovic can seemingly be accommodated for.
