Transfer insider Dean Jones has provided an update regarding Celtic's move for South Korea international, Oh Hyeon-gyu...

What's the word?

Sky Sports journalist Anthony Joseph revealed at the tail-end of last week that the Parkhead outfit had "agreed" a deal for the Suwon Bluewings striker for a fee of around £2.5m, with the confirmation of that move now seemingly imminent.

The aforementioned Jones - in an interview with Football FanCast - has revealed that the Old Firm giants are now more than hopeful that the move can be officially wrapped, with excitement building at the prospect of bringing the 21-year-old to Glasgow.

The respected journalist stated: "They seem to be quite excited about it, to be honest, it's a deal they've been pursuing for a little while. So it does seem like they're optimistic this deal will happen."

'Excited'

A new centre-forward recruit has seemingly been firmly on the agenda for the Scottish champions of late, with it looking like towering marksman Giorgos Giakoumakis departing for pastures new is a matter of when and not if.

The Greece international has been heavily linked with an exit since reports emerged regarding an apparent stall in contract negotiations, with the two parties having failed to agree on a wage increase for the 28-year-old.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano subsequently revealed that the Hoops had accepted an offer from Japanese outfit Urawa Red Diamonds for the 11-cap brute, although it is currently unclear as to whether the player will agree to that move, or look elsewhere.

Wherever Giakoumakis does end up, his exit will leave a notable void in Ange Postecoglou's squad, with the former VVV-Venlo man having scored 26 goals for the club to date, despite only making 22 starts.

Turning to Oh could, however, help to ease the imminent loss of the £12k-per-week ace, with the promising youngster having illustrated his undoubted potential in his homeland of late.

The 6 foot 1 hotshot - who has made one appearance at senior international level - has rightly got those at Paradise 'excited', having scored 23 goals in 93 club career games to date, across spells with his current side and on loan at Gimcheon Sangmu.

The sparkling asset enjoyed a particularly impressive hot streak in the most recent campaign with 11 goals in 32 league games, albeit with eight of those coming in his last ten top-flight outings.

A player who is also comfortable featuring on the flanks, Oh would clearly be able to help bolster Postecoglou's attacking firepower, helping to provide particular competition for the club's current leading scorer, Kyogo Furuhashi.

Barring any late hiccups, it does appear - as Jones alluded to - that the Suwon menace is on his way to Celtic Park.
